The CFA Institute has recognized the high expense of taking the CFA exams, and has introduced a readings material package for the 2006 CFA Level 1 exam. This package contains textbook readings compiled together in a set of CFA Institute softcover books for easy accessibility. Given that their price is about $400, they are a good buy, compared with the cost of original textbooks (over $800). The CFA reading materials are nothing but a collection of textbook readings and are not like our Review Notes. Our Review Notes address each Learning Outcome Statement separately, and provide its detailed explanation with extensive examples. They are exam focused and contain over 1,300 practice problems as well as 3 mock exams (720 questions), for a total of over 2,000 questions. Click here for more details. In our view the CFA Institute materials are good to own but are not enough to pass the exam, unless a candidate has a strong background in finance. Even those who do, usually feel that supplementing textbook readings with Review Notes enhances their chances for success. It is a good idea to buy CFA Readings and supplement them with our Review Notes as the total cost of taking the Level 1 exam in 2006 has come down substantially, when measured in terms of cost of materials. |
